Soumi Mondal is an intuitive sketching painter who lives in Kolkata, West Bengal who excels in the use of color configurations and the art of transforming geometric and curvilinear forms. She explores the unlimited potentiality of chromatic and tonal scales, visual planes, and volume within a two-dimensional framework.
As a child growing up in West Bengal, Soumi displayed innate artistic talent in painting. Her mother enrolled her in art classes, her art was selected for exhibitions and awards. The continued support she received from her family cemented Soumi’s confidence and desire to explore her creativity which has expanded and evolved.
Soumi also completed the 6th year from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad and the 7th year from Surobharati Sangeet Kalakendra. Her academic qualification is a Commerce Graduate in Marketing Hons. Currently, she combines her love for creating art with education and explains, “Using art in my teaching practice is a powerful resource that helps students process the world around them in a collaborative and exciting way.”
At an early age, Soumi started drawing. She has been teaching drawing and painting to students appearing for school and college students as well as hobby artists. It is this belief and approach to painting that makes Soumi stand out. She has been a popular art teacher as she enjoys working with children and kindling their creative instincts in them.
An avid painter, Soumi likes to explore themes and subjects in a unique way so as to bring to life the essence and ethos of her subjects, which have been very diverse as can be seen from her portfolio. She uses all kinds of artwork like landscape, traditional art, doodle art, sketching, etc but basically, I like to do watercolor, pencil sketching, and figure drawings.
Her theme of the artwork is based on freedom fighter Jhansi Rani Laxmi Bai. When she decided to work on a new art style she first sketched different compositions and then after adding color combinations to make the painting look vibrant. They just love all for what they are and accept everyone in their life. It's beyond all worldly desire. Soumi takes 6 hours to draw canvas paintings depending on the size and theme.
